Icelandic Volleyball Association
or shortly BLI from Reykjavik, Iceland. is founded in 1972 and duly affiliated to the FIVB 1972, the International body, and the CEV the European Confederation 1974. BLI is sole governing body for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball in Iceland. It aims to promote, lead and develop the sport in Iceland. BLI is a member to NOC of Iceland which is the governing sporting body in Iceland and a supporting institution.
In total BLI and its institutions encompass:
- 3.323 registered players
- 94 teams which runs the following divisions
- Senior Mens Premium League, 1st Division, 2nd division, 3rd division and 4th division (in total 26 teams)
- Senior Womens Premium League, 1st division, 2nd division, 3rd dvision, 4th division, 5th division, 6th division (in total 68 teams)
BLI administers national teams in line with their objective to develop competitive sport and subsequent goals which are aligned to their performance. Under the National Team program the following teams are running actively:
- Senior Men
- Senior Women
- U20 Men
- U19 Women
- U18 Men
- U18 Men
- U17 Women
- U16 Boys and Girls
Key development project is Volleyball in School that is actively running. It is specialized program to attract newcomers to the sport of Volleyball and in particular to promote the sport to the physical education teachers and their peers.
The project is planned to be implanted in larger towns in Iceland: Capital Reykjavik, Akureyri north province, Neskaupstaður east province, Snæfellsnesbær west province and Isafjordur north west.
